Canley Heights Asbestos Removal

The use of asbestos in these buildings and homes continued until the late 1980s when the health risks associated with asbestos exposure became widely recognized.

Today, the presence of asbestos in Canley Heights poses significant health risks to its residents and visitors. Asbestos fibres, when disturbed and inhaled, can cause serious lung diseases, including asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. The local authorities, including the Fairfield City Council and the New South Wales Government, have implemented strict regulations and procedures for the safe removal and disposal of asbestos. For instance, the Canley Heights Public School underwent a major refurbishment in the early 2000s, which included the safe removal of asbestos-containing materials. Similarly, the Canley Heights RSL Club has also undergone asbestos abatement procedures. Despite these efforts, there have been several reported cases of asbestos-related diseases in the area. In 2015, a former student of Canley Heights Public School was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure. This incident served as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by asbestos in Canley Heights.
